Students will become familiarized with the 3D coordinate system used in Minecraft Education Edition.
Students will demonstrate an understanding of the coordinate system by successfully completing the activities (Challenge and Scavenger Hunt).
Critical Thinking
Big Idea: How can we navigate to specific positions in Minecraft?
What is a 3d coordinate system?
What are coordinates?
What does the x coordinate tell you?
What does the y coordinate tell you?
What does the z coordinate tell you?
How do you use a map?
How do you navigating to coordinates using a Map?
How do compasses work?
How can you fine your current position (coordinates)?
How do find north?
How do you teleport?
This world & lesson is set up into 3 sections or activities:
Explore and learn about the 3d coordinate system in Minecraft.
Practice finding coordinates with the Navigating Challenge Activity.
Practice teleporting with the Teleporting Scavenger Hunt Activity.
This lesson will enable students to:
Demonstrate an understanding of the 3D coordinate system by successfully completing the activities (Challenge and Scavenger Hunt).

Space and Shape
Students will:
Identify and plot points in the first quadrant of a Cartesian plane, using whole number ordered pairs.
Perform and describe single transformations of a 2-D shape in the first quadrant of a Cartesian plane (limited to whole number vertices).
Space and Shape
Students will:
Identify and plot points in the four quadrants of a Cartesian plane, using integral ordered pairs.
Perform and describe transformations (translations, rotations or reflections) of a 2-D shape in all four quadrants of a Cartesian plane (limited to integral number vertices).
Identify needs and opportunities for designing, through exploration
Generate ideas from their experiences and interests
Add to others’ ideas
Choose an idea to pursue.
Making
Choose tools and materials
Make a product using known procedures or through modelling of others
Use trial and error to make changes, solve problems, or incorporate new ideas from self or others
Sharing
Decide on how and with whom to share their product
Demonstrate their product, tell the story of designing and making their product, and explain how their product contributes to the individual, family, community, and/or environment
Use personal preferences to evaluate the success of their design solutions
Reflect on their ability to work effectively both as individuals and collaboratively in a group
Use materials, tools, and technologies in a safe manner in both physical and digital environments
Develop their skills and add new ones through play and collaborative work
Explore the use of simple, available tools and technologies to extend their capabilities
