What can we learn about a landmark by building it?
- Introduce students to the challenge. Show examples of real-life and Minecraft landmarks. Pair students together for this project or let them choose a partner.
Have students research landmarks they may want to create. They could search for famous skyscrapers, wonders of the world, famous monuments, etc. Help them manage the scale and complexity of their choice based on Minecraft skill.
• Help them find and save images of their chosen landmark from multiple angles.
• If possible, allow students to print their images for easy reference
• Give students a few minutes of planning time with graph paper before going into
Minecraft. They should roughly sketch their structure from at least 2 angles. Note that for large
structures, they should probably NOT build to scale; that would take far too long!
Let students explore and see the progress of the other groups and
leave positive feedback signs.
Students can share suggestions on feedback signs as well.
• Have students enter the game and find a space to build. Be sure no one goes too far away from start but that everyone still feels comfortable with their proximity to their neighbours. As they build, float around to offer support. Be sure students are titling and signing their work.
