In this lesson, students will be introduced to Science Island - a world designed to allow students of all ages to formulate, test & modify a guess before generating a hypothesis which they believe true!

Formulate an educated guess
Test an educated guess and formulate a hypothesis
Communicate observations effectively
Create a final truth statement to act as a hypothesis moving forward
Conduct experiments in a virtual environment following directions
Resetting an experiment and tidying up a lab atmosphere when completed
Students will communicate observations and happenings in detail in a written form to be submitted for review
Collaboration
Critical Thinking
Project Based Learning
Can students formulate a hypothesis about Minecraftian Water Behaviour and test that hypothesis in an effective manner?
Can students modify a tested hypothesis supporting it with observations and detailed evidence?
Can students commit to a final hypothesis that they alone or as a team agree is as accurate as possible moving forward following a lab station?
Can students communicate their final hypothesis in written form and explain what they believe to be true?
Students will complete 5 stations which explore water behaviour in Minecraft.
At each station (alone or in groups) they will form a hypothesis for what they think will happen. They will test that hypothesis. Then modify the hypothesis before committing to a final statement they believe to be true.
Their portfolios will be filled with observations, pictures evidence and final hypotheses for each station.
[Extension] - Students can master coding in Minecraft with Prodigy Learning and Coding in Minecraft here https://codingcredentials.com/ and then CODE using the AGENT a 6th and final experiment on the undeveloped piece of Science Island.
[Extension] - Students can create a 6th experiment on the undeveloped part of Science Island if their teacher feel this is an essential skill extension.
[Extension] - Visit some of the famous scientists that line the link between islands to learn more about how they impact society even today with their legendary work.
Complete the 5 stations in order starting at spawn. Capture picture evidence and written details to support final hypotheses for each station.
Submit the portfolio to the teacher and add hypotheses to the Cave of Knowledge.
Catch a fish in the Pool of Wisdom for fun at the end.
