Part 2 – Designing Your Experience – Turn Data Into Action (Student Co-taught – Grades 5-12)
Virtual Live Co-Taught
About This Event
It's time to become a data innovator! Students take the lead by designing and carrying out their own basketball data investigation. Building on the skills developed in previous modules, participants will explore real-world questions, analyze data, and develop solutions supported by evidence. Students will work collaboratively to identify a problem or question they want to explore, determine what data they need, and create a plan for collecting, organizing, and analyzing information. Using basketball analytics as their playground, they will learn how to transform observations and statistics into meaningful insights that can influence decisions and tell compelling stories. Through hands-on inquiry and project-based learning, students will experience the same process used by data analysts, researchers, and decision-makers across a wide range of industries.
During this workshop, students will:
Develop a driving question that can be explored through data.
Design a data investigation plan focused on a meaningful challenge.
Analyze basketball data to uncover patterns and insights.
Create charts, graphs, and visualizations to communicate findings.
Collaborate with peers to test ideas and refine solutions.
Present evidence-based recommendations and conclusions.
By the end of the session, students will have created a structured data investigation and developed evidence-based insights that address a real question or challenge. They will understand how data can be used not only to analyze the past but also to make recommendations, solve problems, and create meaningful impact.
Note: This session will follow Module 3: Designing Your Experience from the Canvas Course.
