About This Event

Transform data exploration into authentic, student-driven learning. Educators will learn how to guide students through the process of developing their own data investigations, from asking compelling questions to creating evidence-based solutions and recommendations.
Building on the foundational data literacy and analysis skills introduced in earlier modules, this session focuses on designing engaging learning experiences that empower students to take ownership of the inquiry process. Using basketball analytics as a real-world context, participants will explore strategies for helping students define meaningful questions, identify relevant data sources, analyze findings, and communicate their insights effectively.
Educators will also examine how project-based learning approaches can foster collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking while connecting data literacy to curriculum outcomes and future-ready competencies.

During this session, educators will:

  • Learn how to facilitate student-led data inquiry projects.

  • Explore frameworks for developing meaningful driving questions.

  • Guide students through the process of collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.

  • Support learners in creating visualizations and communicating data-driven insights.

  • Develop strategies for fostering collaboration, problem-solving, and reflection.

  • Explore assessment approaches that measure both content understanding and inquiry skills.

  • Connect data projects to cross-curricular learning opportunities in mathematics, STEM, technology, and career education.

By the end of this session, educators will be equipped to help students design and execute meaningful data investigations that connect classroom learning to real-world challenges. Participants will leave with practical strategies for empowering students to ask better questions, uncover actionable insights, and transform data into impactful solutions.
Note: This session will follow Module 3: Designing Your Experience from the Canvas Course.
