In this lesson, students will design an after-school schedule and chore for Dash. Students will practice digital time, programming Dash to move forward on a Timetable Programming Mat. For 2nd graders, each time Dash performs a “chore” on a square of the Timetable Programming Mat, the students will be paid the assigned amount in nickels, dimes, or quarters. At the end of the game, the group that’s earned the most money will be the winner.

Processes That Shape the Earth: Dash Versus the Planet

In this lesson, students will create a structure to prevent “erosion” caused by Dash. Students will write a program using Dash to demonstrate the effects of erosion.

Reading and Comprehending Text: Goldi-Dash and the Three Bears

In this lesson, students will demonstrate reading comprehension by responding to Goldilocks and the Three Bears and then inserting Dash into the story as “Goldi-Dash.” Students will plan a “decision path” formatted like a road intersection. Each direction will represent an alternative decision Goldilocks *could* have made under the same circumstances. Students will then create two different programs for Goldi-Dash to follow based on each decision path. (This lesson could be used with any grade-appropriate literature.)

Using Sketch Kit with Dash: Sketching City Maps

Dash wants to make the world a better place! In this lesson, students will program Dash to re-imagine a city to make it a happier, healthier place for people of all ages, pets, and even robots!

Students will estimate the lengths of these lines and then measure them using non-standard measurement (an extension to standard measurement is optional). In this lesson, students will program Dash through a course. As Dash moves through the course, students will experiment to see what a variety of materials look like when a beam of light is shone through them.

Number Identification: Number Dash!

In this lesson, students will trace a cardboard number with their finger in order to help learn to identify numbers. Students will practice one-to-one correspondence by counting Dot illustrations printed on each number.

Space Systems: Day and Night with Dash

Students will predict the patterns of day and night based on the movement of the Earth. Students will create models of the Earth’s movement using Dash and Dot.

Climate and Weather: Dashing through the Seasons
